THE DAYS OF C.S. LEWIS

Every Friday our staff meets together to pray for the UEC. We have been actively praying for opportunities to use the Center to promote faith in Christ more. With the upcoming release of "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe," (it opens in Ukraine on December 29), we decided to promote the writings of C. S. Lewis this month. We published a small newsletter with information about Lewis, his life, faith, and work. We also ran a small contest and gave away a few Lewis books. To promote Lewis month, we printed several posters with scenes from the Narnia film.

The highlight of The Days of Lewis was the seminar we hosted on December 17. Organized by members of Nivki Church of Christ and the UEC staff, the seminar featured an audio-visual presentation of Lewis's life: his conversion to Christianity, his relationship to Tolkien and Joy Gresham. We also spent time on /The Chronicles of Narnia /and their roots in Christianity. We also showed the trailers for the film and were able to show the scene where the White Witch tempts Edmund with a "round box tied with green silk ribbon, full of Turkish delight." Thanks to Lena Lovingood's keen eye in a grocery store, we were also able to surprize everyone with a piece of Turkish delight!

More than 55 people came to the seminar; the UEC's large room, corridor, and adjacent small room were packed. It was a delight to open up Lewis's world to so many and we pray that this seminar will lead them beyond Narnia to the Real that Lewis so often and so well helps us to know better.
