a
cold day
I
sought the cold today
because it forces me to inhabit it
I cannot plan
I cannot reflect
in its embrace
the wind enters my body
exposed parts, thinly covered areas
it besieges me
at first it toughes only my hidden surface
reaching through the depth of layers
relentlessly seeking a host of warmth
slowly it spreads
in sudden bursts
moments of power
that increase its scope
its levity
until it feels as if it is the internal being
myself its useless shell
the battle does not last long
nor is the conquer unexpected
or undesirable
the cold ruins me
destroys my present
makes me its own
today I sought the cold
and it found me
it welcomed my shelter
and I voluntarily confronted
its conquest
